G save "Ji" from disaster

Expecting a hat-trick from Lingusamy after Mammooty starrer "Anandham" and Madhavan starrer "Run", "Ji" is such a let down film. Blame me for going on the first day night show and watching Ajith's fans sulking and walking out midway. Vidyasagar's tunes are definitely far from hummable. The less said about Ajith - his roaring of "Adhu" with a pointed finger at his opponents is becoming cliched and also pardon him for having the audacity to play a college going lad. Less said about Trisha and her acting - her five song dance routines makes her look more like an extra, rather than the protagonist's consort. Guess bad streak of films continue. Big bomb Alexander should have been a better view (as atleast you go expecting a flop film)...

Come Tamil New Year Day, you have Chandramukhi (Rajni), Mumbai Express (Kamal), Sachien (Vijay), Anniyan (Vikram) setting the BO on fire. Never before has Tamil Film Industry seen such a line up on a single day and this is likely to toss Tamil fil industry to the next level of grandeur. Talks of Godfather (Ajith) also hitting the BO on the same day is making the rounds. Thats some kind of treat for the Tamil film goer.

Black & Barefoot in the Park - Double Whammy Mistakes

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black & Evam's latest theatre production "Barefoot in the Park"....less talked about both of them the better...

Both do not deserve high ratings. Black is too heavy and could sometimes become subconsciously psychotic (in the race to direct a cross over film, he has directed a crossed over film...). And the latter could unarguably be one of the not-so-good productions of Evam among all their eight plays (well since i have seen all of them, guess can comment on it)...

But next 2 weeks seems to be packed for the Chennai theatre goer...Koothupatrai, Sanjana Kapoor's Prithvi and Loyola Theatre Society (who else but Mike Muthu) productions in the offing...

It would be great if someone could revive Tamil theatre...
the likes of KB, MR Radha and Manohar will definitely come about again....its always a cycle...

Idhai Urakka Solvom Ulagukku (Lets say it loudly to the world)
...... the immortal lines from Mani Ratnam's "Iruvar"

- Jackie Chan and Ben Affleck spouting Tamil in Sun TV and Vijay TV in Tamil dubbed Hollywood films. Not just that, Jackie Chan also quotes the Sage of Tamil - Tiruvalluvar
- Chennai is the only FM circle where Radio Mirchi is completely vernacular
- Disney is commencing a tamil toon channel

What more pride for a Tamilian. Increasingly I see a lot of youngsters who seem to be taking a lot of pride in speaking Tamil. Nativity in tamil films is on the increase. Signs of good times.

One of my college pal always insists that we speak only in Tamil when we interact. Which I do passionately even in office and with my customers. Not that I really care what they feel about it. When in Chennai and when in Tamil Nadu, speak Tamil, live Tamil, breathe Tamil.

Well Google is in Tamil. Just hope Sergey Brin and Larry Page do thir bit to blogspot too, to facilitate Tamil blogging .

The Blast

It was probably the first time in 28 birthdays that I have had a blast. And this Feb 3 will probably be vivid in my memory for the suprise that my friends decided to spring upon me.

Well, on the evening of Feb 3, my bosom buddy Subbu came home just as me & amma were planning to go for a dinner date. He seemed to be the proverbial "man in a hurry" and requested me manage a puppy (that he had got from his friend) for a couple of days. And since my amma also had no issue, I went along with him to his house to get hold of the supposed pet. But back of the mind,it was hard for me to believe as he knew I was a dog-hater.

So i went up to his terrace along with him, with a doubt lingering at the back of my mind. When we reached the open air, lights suddenly lit up and a group of 15 people started singing THE song. Needed all the smelling salts to actually believe what I saw.

A motley group of my close coterie - AirTelites, Frosties and even college mates had gathered for a suprise party.Subbu had actually started planning for it more than ten days back and had somehow got their contact details from amma and called them to join for the same.

The party went on past midnight - it actually was a teetotallers dream till all the moms were there. And then corks popped open when the senior citizens left the place. What a party !! Muchas Gracis pals!!

Countdown to 3rd Feb

Back to the grind is how i would like to describe my second innings in telecom. Back to chaos. Back to the past. Well guess i have no reason to crib as I walked knowing fully well the road ahead.

But then have been able to catch up with weekend films...caught up with Kisna 2 weeks back (oh shit its almost two weeks since i typed a blog...just realised it) and Nicholas Cage starrer National Treasure last Friday. NT is definitely work a dekko with its tight narration (though a masala storyline). And thankfully, I understood most part of NT which usually does not happen to me and my pal Ganti when we watch English movies...

Kisna is definitely not worth a review - its definitely not a Ghai film . As rediff said , its an epic masala. One expected more out of the movie maker. Maybe when he makes a cameo apperance in his films like our very own KS Ravikumar, it has definitely been lucky for him.

OK in another 2 hours its going to be Feb 3....a few years back something extra ordinary happened on this planet at 3 am in the morning in a dingy Govt Healthcentre in Nandanam....the earth shook....skies cried in happiness...the angels descended....

anyways amma has gifted myself a DVD player this time on my bday..Samsung 1.48 ...waiting for the inaguration....

well 28 years is indeed a long enough time on this earth..have i really accomplished anything substantial...guess no time for introspection....have to hit the bed...
