Ash Chandler is hilarious

A few days back, I was at the launch of Times Ascent Chennai edition. As is customary with any Times party, it had the tinge of difference. Not talking about the short-skirt clad compere that is mandatory. What lightened up the evening was Ash Chandler's rip-roaring forty-minute session. Arguably one of the best stand-up comedians in India (Vikram Sathe is the other; I would not like to add Shekhar Suman as he is more of a show host), he kept us entertained with a wide-variety of topics including the usual "wife-nagging" and "old people" subjects. But there were couple of jokes that probably remain unforgettable - "trousers keep going up as men grow old and how at one points the neck pops up just above the trousers"..and yeah the icing on the cake, "The women in Chennai are hot. No wonder they say, "wanna come" (Vanakkam he meant)...

Lage Raho Mahatma...

I hate saying it. But I am sure, Mahatma will get a lease of life again with Lage Raho Munnabhai. If Munnabhai Part I created a new genre in commercial Hindi mainstream films, the second part is definitely bound to send across ripples in the commercial Hindi cinema. Going beyond the regular dose of "mamus" and "wats", the film has a strong story line but sometimes sagging screenplay. Guess, its definitely a dekko for the bold approach. Must say, Vidhu Vindo Chopra should stick to producing films...
